The First Pre-recorded Movie with Audio Description -“Men on the Dragon” is in Theaters Now

The Hong Kong Society for the Blind (HKSB) started to provide audio description services to assist the visually impaired persons to watch movie since 2009. In the past, when we organized movie show with audio description, the show time and location were fixed, and the narrator presented the audio description in live. After our effort in previous years  the first pre-recorded movie with audio description – “Men on the Dragon” was broadcasted on 2 August 2018, HKSB hence organized “New Milestone of Audio Description Movie cum “Men on the Dragon” Movie Show” to share this achievement to the public. The audio description sound track is pre-recorded in the movie, thus the visually impaired persons are able to select the cinema and show time depends on their needs, enhance the independence of their life, and equal participation to the society.

Audio description adaptive equipment was installed in UA Cine Times (House 2) and UA Maritime Square (House 2), the visually impaired audience can borrow a receiver and a headset from the cinema when they buy the ticket, and enjoy the movie with their friends and family members.

Miss Nancy Law, Chairperson of HKSB said, “We would like to promote audio description to the film industry and seek for their support via this event, we hope that more cinemas will install the facilities and more film companies are willing to produce movies with audio description, so as to improve the quality of life of the visually impaired persons, and enhance equal participation on cultural activities.”

We are grateful to have Mr. David Leung, JP, Commissioner for Rehabilitation, Labour and Welfare Bureau to attend as officiating guest, he was pleased to witness the film industry to join hand with  HKSB to promote the audio description service, and it is a good news to the visually impaired persons.
