Press Conference on Starting a New World from Playing Piano
The “Starting a New World from Playing Piano” career support service to the visually impaired persons was officially launched on 25 February 2011. With funding support from the Chan Dang Social Services Foundation, a piano room was set up at the East Wing of HKSB Headquarters, providing appropriate teaching aids to support visually impaired piano teachers to teach both sighted and visually impaired students piano lessons. The service aim to support the visually impaired teachers with music talent to teach students interested in piano playing. Moreover, the visually impaired teachers would be able to earn an independent living.
We were grateful to Mr. Fong Kai Leung, District Social Welfare Officer, Shamshuipo, Social Welfare Officer, Ms Nancy Law, Chairman of HKSB, Dr Vincent Kwan, representative of Chan Dang Social Services Foundation, Ms Nancy Loo, a renowned pianist and Ms Ida Lam, Chairman of Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong, and Mr Wong Chi Shing, Sales Manager of Nagoya Piano Company attended the Press Conference as Chief Officiating Guests of the Press Conference. Dr Kwan, Ms Loo and Ms Lam spoke at the Press Conference to give encouragement to the visually impaired teachers and students. They particularly affirmed the special talents of the two piano teachers and to appeal to the audience and the public to give full support to the Programme. Mr Lee Hin and Mr Lee Sing, two visually impaired teachers gave remarkable performance at the Press Conference.
