  • The Hong Kong Society for the Blind finds out “Mindful MUSIC” - a creative therapy “Mindfulness based music therapy” reduces depressive symptoms successfully. Adjusts the emotion of the visually impaired elderly and brings new point of view to the future metal health.

Sponsored by the HSBC Private Banking Clients and Employees*, the integrated therapy team of Kowloon Home for the Aged Blind under The Hong Kong Society for the Blind (HKSB) conducted a two-year “Mindful MUSIC” project. Combined “mindfulness”, “music” and “Gernotech”, responds to the mental health of the visually impaired living in residential home under COVID-19.

Started in 2020, over 250 sections of group activities via online platform were conducted, a clinical research was conducted at the same time, it was called “Mindful MUSIC Mindfulness Based Music Therapy – improve emotion adjustment of the visually impaired elderly” .

The press conference is organized on 8 June 2022. Mr Armstrong Chiu, the coordinator of the project said, “This is a rare clinical research focus on the effectiveness of “mindfulness based” to visually impaired elderly. We found that “Mindfulness based music therapy” is better than “Mindfulness therapy”, in addition, we found that music can provide a different way of treatment to emotion adjustment. Leverage on music, our visually impaired residents could more devote into the treatment.”

HKSB adopts Mindful MUSIC “Mindfulness based music therapy” to help our visually impaired residents. We will introduce more types of therapy to help the needy, and support the mental needs of people under the pandemic.
