Deepening the co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong
In the first half of 2024, we visited the Greater Bay Area and other provinces and cities in the mainland to exchange views on visually impaired services and promote the development of visually impaired services in the two regions.
Taizhou City, Jiangsu Province
In May this year, HKSB was honored to be invited by the Taizhou Blind Association of Jiangsu Province to visit its service centres in Taizhou. During the visit, we met with the chairman of the Jiangsu Taixing Disabled Persons' Federation and the Taizhou Blind Association as well as the chairpersons of blind associations across Jiangsu Province to share service experiences.
We also visited two massage clinics in Taizhou, where we were warmly received by their founders and Secretary-General of the Taizhou Health Massage Industry Association. Visually impaired masseuses from Mainland and Hong Kong learnt massage techniques from each other, and had in-depth exchanges on massage and health care experiences.
Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province
In May this year, the HKSB participated in the "Connecting Heart" exchange programme and visited Chaozhou together with more than 300 Hong Kong social welfare practitioners. Through three days of exchanges, our colleagues have deepened their understanding of Chaozhou's social welfare services and truly felt the determination of local government to improving people's lives.
Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province
The Family Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired organized a 3-days exchange programme with twenty-two visually impaired and their families to visit “Guangdong Assistive Devices North Guangdong Regional Centre” in July this year.
Besides, they also visited the famous tourist attractions “Jiangxin Island”, “Jiangbin park” and “The Guxiangli Theme Park”, allowing members to experience the folk customs of Qingyuan.
Thanks to Mr. Edward Kwok, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant: Family Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired, for sponsoring this event. It provided the opportunity for visually impaired and their family members to understand the development of rehabilitation services in Mainland China.
