Learning Chinese Common Braille in Beijing

In October 2025, we launched the first “Chinese Common Braille Training Programme – Theory and Practice.” The sixty-hour course, taught by the China Braille Press in Beijing, including visits to the China Library for the Blind, the Beijing Central Axis, and the Beijing School for the Blind, along with hands on LEGO activities to support learning.

Nine staff members joined the training, including four with visual impairment. The course covered Braille history, Mandarin grammar, teaching material development, Braille proofreading, LEGO tools, and teaching skills. Participants agreed the programme improved their Chinese Common Braille skills and deepened their understanding of Braille publishing, accessible information, and teaching methods in Chinese Mainland.
Looking ahead, we will launch a second phase programme and provide internal retraining to strengthen our team’s expertise. We will also hold a cultural exhibition and create self learning materials. Our aim is to continue promoting Braille literacy, enhancing information accessibility, and supporting cross border exchange to better serve people with visual impairment in Hong Kong.
