Pioneering in Gerontech HKSB participated in “Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit” for two consecutive years
Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit 2018 was held at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre from 22 November to 25 November. The Hong Kong Society for the Blind participated in the event for two consecutive years, to present to the general public how Gerontech can be harnessed to meet the daily needs of the elderly. The exhibition was presented with two themes: “Residential Care Service” and “Aging in Place”.
Innovative solutions in relation to fall prevention, swallowing, posture and cognitive health were showcased in the “Residential Care Service” area, such as: “Spinal Mouse ®” is a device that, combined with a computer program , assesses the curvatures of the vertebral column without applying harmful radiation, for further training or treatment to the elderly. In addition, “Rephagia” is used to train the swallowing function using games and visualizations and get direct feedback via wireless sensors.
“Aging in Place” features an array of adaptive technologies, such as video magnifiers, braille smart watches and artificial vision devices. A newly launched product “OrCam MyEye 2.0” which is a handy device to recognize texts and faces, was also exhibited.
Apart from the exhibition, our representatives were also invited to share their experience and exchange insights with participants in workshops on various topics, including “Innovation and Technology for Application in Elderly and Rehabilitation Care Series: New Insights through Collaboration” and “Risk Monitoring and Fall Prevention through Innovative Solutions”.
